Lena Dunham’s new film Catherine named Birdy is a starring medieval coming-of-age comedy game of Thrones Actress Bella Ramsey in the title role. Based on the 1994 novel of the same name by Karen Cushman. Catherine named Birdy follows a 14-year-old girl growing up in a medieval kingdom trying to avoid potential suitors hand-picked by her father.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in early September. This weekend, Catherine named Birdy will debut in select theaters across the country.

Ramsey is joined in the cast by Andrew Scott, Billie Piper, Joe Alwyn, Dean-Charles Chapman, Ralph Ineson and Russell Brand. Dunham is directing a screenplay she wrote. So far the film has received great reviews from critics who say it’s a fresh and inventive approach to the coming-of-age genre.

Dunham’s latest feature film will not stream on Netflix, but some medieval comedies are available on the platform.
